Solar and Real Property Tax

In the Solar and Real Property Tax podcast, NY-Sun PV Trainers Network expert policy trainers Emily Chessin of Meister Consultants Group and Bill Oberkehr of Sustainable CUNY discuss New York States Real Property Tax Law section 487, which provides a Real Property Tax exemption for all renewable energy projects in New York State. With the advent of community solar in New York, the state has seen a substantial uptick in large scale solar energy projects that do not use all of the power that they produce on-site. In this podcast, the PVTN team outlines Real Property Tax Law section 487, its impact and options relevant to AHJs in the state, and possible ways for AHJs to generate revenue from renewable energy projects without causing unintended harm to the overall renewable energy market in their communities.
